How do we know when we've got the FOAF naming vocabulary right? Let's collect some use cases, and from these derrive some concrete textual test cases for use in scoping our designs and probing the behaviour of our implementations.

The core of FOAF is some vocabulary based around describing people in RDF/XML. We use the class foaf:Person for this. The simplest account of what a FOAF document amounts to is 'a machine readable home page'. What kinds of things might we want to say about people's names?

I'd like to be able to represent my name, in its general shortened form 'Dan Brickley', while also providing a breakdown into parts, that my first name is 'Dan', that I also have a middle name, 'Alexander', and a last name (surname, family name or whatever) of 'Brickley'. I'd like to do so using vocabulary that supports round-tripping of these parts of my description into other common representations of people and their names, including but not limited to vCard and LDAP/LDIF entries for import/export into addressbooks and suchlike. --DanBri
